Canada comprises about 6.7% percent of the world’s land area yet has:
• 20 per cent of the world’s remaining wilderness
• 25 per cent of the world’s wetlands
• 10 per cent of the world’s forests
DID YOU KNOW?
Canada is not an aggressor nation, yet has fought with
great valour in two World Wars, as well as other inter-
national conflicts. Canada may be best known for its in-
volvement in peace keeping. It has led or participated in
more than 50 such missions since 1945. Canada played a
leading role in the formation of the United Nations.
Canadian scientists have contributed important discov-
eries—for example, insulin—to world health. Canadians
inventors have produced the telephone, the alkaline bat-
tery, the Blackberry, the dump truck, the electric wheel-
chair, the Canadarm—also known as the Space Arm—
and basketball.
There are many outstanding Canadian authors, painters,
musicians, journalists and entertainers... as well as ath-
letes, journalists, scientists and diplomats. Canadians
have won Nobel Prizes in chemistry, physics, medicine,
economics, literature and peace.
